The Nuremberg trials contributed to standards in many professional fields, including interpreting, as was pointed out in a
recent article by Eduardo Reyes. The field of translation and interpreting is growing, and with expansion the sway of big business, the prevalence of outsourcing, and the promotion of questionable agency in-house certification schemes are becoming more common. Concurrently working conditions essential to quality and potentially to trust are deteriorating. This may be a good time to take a small step back to see the big picture so that we may take a giant step forward.
